Now maybe we can finally do something about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gothamist.com\/food\/de-blasio-introduces-nyc-ranked-choice-pizza-topping-voting\">green peppers<\/a> on pizza.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\">\n<p class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-el=\"text\">Below: A Russian cyber executive was arrested for treason and more Epik data was leaked.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\">\n<p class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-el=\"text\">Democratic lawmakers seem prepared to avert a government shutdown, but the damage to government cybersecurity may already be done.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\">\n<p class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-el=\"text\">The House and Senate plan to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/09\/30\/politics\/government-shutdown-deadline-congress-votes\/index.html\">vote today<\/a> on a bill funding government operations through December, narrowly preventing a lapse in appropriations and a furloughing of tens of thousands of workers at midnight. The funding was tied up in a legislative brawl over two massive Democratic spending bills also imperiling Congress&#8217;s ability to raise the debt ceiling.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\">\n<p class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-el=\"text\">But the image of an institution veering from crisis to crisis in which workers can&#8217;t count on a steady paycheck is sure to hurt the government&#8217;s ability to compete with the private sector for top-flight cyber talent.<\/p>\n<p data-el=\"text\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\">\n<p class=\"font--article-body font-copy gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\" data-el=\"text\">The near-miss comes less than two years after the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
