{"id":677,"date":"2021-08-16T13:07:08","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T13:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/?p=677"},"modified":"2021-08-16T13:07:08","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T13:07:08","slug":"t-mobile-investigates-massive-potential-data-breach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/blog\/t-mobile-investigates-massive-potential-data-breach\/","title":{"rendered":"T-Mobile investigates massive potential data breach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hacker appears to be selling personally identifiable information (PII) relating to millions of US-based\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/sg\/news\/mint-mobile-vs-t-mobile-which-carrier-is-best-for-you\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>T-Mobile<\/u><\/a>\u00a0customers on an underground forum.<\/p>\n<p>While the forum post doesn\u2019t say the data belongs to T-Mobile explicitly, the seller told\u00a0<em>Motherboard<\/em>\u00a0they obtained the information by breaching the telecom company&#8217;s\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/sg\/news\/best-small-business-servers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-component-tracked=\"1\">servers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"hawk-nest hawk-processed\" data-render-type=\"fte\" data-skip=\"dealsy\" data-widget-type=\"seasonal\" data-widget-id=\"8372770801556323000\" data-result=\"missing\"><\/aside>\n<p>The pool of data reportedly includes the social security numbers (SSN), phone numbers, names, physical addresses, unique IMEI numbers, and driver license (DL) information of roughly 100 million T-Mobile customers.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"under-investigation\">Under investigation<\/h2>\n<p>The hacker has put up less than a third of the stolen data with SSN and DL details for sale on the dark web &#8211; for the price of six\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/sg\/best\/mining-rigs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-original-url=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/news\/the-best-bitcoin-exchange\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>bitcoin<\/u><\/a>\u00a0(about $270,000) &#8211; with the intent to sell the rest of the\u00a0<a class=\"hawk-link-parsed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.techradar.com\/sg\/best\/best-database-software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-component-tracked=\"1\"><u>database<\/u><\/a>\u00a0privately.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to reports, T-Mobile issued a statement claiming that it is investigating the potential breach.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity.
