{"id":1810,"date":"2025-11-11T09:04:52","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T09:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/?p=1810"},"modified":"2025-11-11T09:04:52","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T09:04:52","slug":"cybersecurity-breach-at-congressional-budget-office-remains-a-live-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/blog\/cybersecurity-breach-at-congressional-budget-office-remains-a-live-threat\/","title":{"rendered":"Cybersecurity breach at Congressional Budget Office remains a live threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">A cybersecurity breach discovered last week affecting the Congressional Budget Office is now considered \u201congoing,\u201d threatening both incoming and outgoing correspondence around Congress\u2019 nonpartisan scorekeeper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">Employees at the Library of Congress were warned in a Monday email, obtained by POLITICO, that the CBO cybersecurity incident is \u201caffecting its email communications\u201d and that library staff should take a range of measures to protect themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">Library of Congress workers also were told to restrict their communication with the nonpartisan agency tasked with providing economic and budgetary information to lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">\u201cDo NOT click on any links in emails from CBO. Do NOT share sensitive information with CBO colleagues over email, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom at this time,\u201d the email reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">\u201cMaintain a high level of vigilance and verify the legitimacy of CBO communications by confirming with the sender via telephone that they sent the message,\u201d the note continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">Congressional staff are in regular communication with CBO regarding scores of legislation and cost estimates the agency prepares for bills in both the House and Senate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">There was no immediate information Monday about the broader implications that a legislative branch office was continuing to experience cybersecurity vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">A CBO spokesperson\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/11\/06\/congress\/congressional-budget-office-hacked-00640964\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said last week<\/a>\u00a0that officials had taken \u201cimmediate action to contain\u201d the breach as officials investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rte__paragraph\">When asked for comment Monday about ongoing issues, the CBO spokesperson referred to the prior statement.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/11\/10\/congress\/cbo-still-under-threat-00644930\">Read the Full Story<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source: Politico<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A cybersecurity breach discovered last week affecting the Congressional Budget Office is now considered \u201congoing,\u201d threatening both incoming and outgoing correspondence around Congress\u2019 nonpartisan scorekeeper.
