{"id":1775,"date":"2025-10-01T08:58:31","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T08:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/?p=1775"},"modified":"2025-10-01T08:58:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T08:58:31","slug":"cyber-attacks-80-of-ransomware-victims-pay-up-insurer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/blog\/cyber-attacks-80-of-ransomware-victims-pay-up-insurer-says\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyber attacks: &#8216;80%&#8217; of ransomware victims pay up, insurer says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The vast majority of companies hit by ransomware attacks over the past year have paid up, according to an insurance specialist&#8217;s report that warns of mixed outcomes for those who do.<\/p>\n<p>Business-to-home insurer Hiscox released its annual Cyber Readiness Report against a backdrop of concern over a series of cyber attacks on high profile names over the past six months, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/cyber-attack-on-mands-involved-sophisticated-impersonation-chairman-says-13393887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Marks and Spencer<\/strong><\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/co-op-reveals-80m-profit-hit-from-cyber-attack-disruption-with-more-to-come-13437683\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Co-op<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/jaguar-land-rover-severely-disrupted-by-cyber-attack-13423811\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Jaguar Land Rover<\/strong><\/a> (JLR).<\/p>\n<p>The carmaker has been handed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/jaguar-land-rover-rescued-with-1-5bn-government-backed-loan-after-crippling-cyber-attack-13439969\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u00a31.5bn loan guarantee<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0by the government to help shield its vast supply chain, including many small firms, from the impact of a month-long shutdown of its factories.<\/p>\n<p>While some have already laid off staff &#8211; a fraction of the 200,000 people employed among suppliers &#8211; many victims of hackers are small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) that would not attract such financial support by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>There are no lengths to which cyber criminals will stoop &#8211; with hackers just last week\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/hackers-behind-nursery-cyber-attack-tell-sky-news-they-are-releasing-more-data-on-dozens-of-children-13438696\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>threatening to release the personal data of children in the care of a nursery chain<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hiscox said 27% of the 5,750 SMEs surveyed had been targeted with ransomware over the last 12 months.
