{"id":1597,"date":"2025-04-02T14:48:37","date_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/?p=1597"},"modified":"2025-04-02T14:48:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T14:48:37","slug":"ai-effect-openai-backs-deepfake-cybersecurity-startup-adaptive-security-in-new-funding-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/blog\/ai-effect-openai-backs-deepfake-cybersecurity-startup-adaptive-security-in-new-funding-round\/","title":{"rendered":"AI Effect OpenAI backs deepfake cybersecurity startup Adaptive Security in new funding round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Artificial intelligence cybersecurity company Adaptive Security announced Wednesday that it closed a $43 million funding round in March, co-led by OpenAI and Andreessen Horowitz.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The investment marks OpenAI\u2019s first outside backing of a cybersecurity firm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Adaptive Security simulates AI-powered attacks against companies, specializing in training for deepfake attacks and other phishing threats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe technology is getting better and better every day,\u201d CEO Brian Long said on CNBC\u2019s \u201cSquawk Box.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s not just voice and likeness, it\u2019s trained in all of the opensource information out there about you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The company uses data and AI learning to simulate attacks that go beyond just imitating an individual\u2019s voice \u2013 like most modern sophisticated phishing attacks, the technology uses details about someone\u2019s family, background, personality and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">AI-powered attacks have been rising over even the past year, Long said, as AI continues to get more sophisticated and the line between real and deepfake blurs more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe rise of AI-powered social engineering represents one of the most urgent cybersecurity threats of our time,\u201d Long said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The recent funding round also included participation from Abstract Ventures, Eniac Ventures, CrossBeam Ventures, and K5, along with executives from Google, Workday, Shopify, Plaid and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAI is reshaping the cybersecurity threat landscape faster than most organizations can respond,\u201d said Ian Hathaway, a partner at the OpenAI Startup Fund, in the release. \u201cAdaptive is building exactly what the industry needs \u2014 an AI-native defense platform that evolves as fast as the attackers.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The company said the funding round will accelerate their engineering solutions to better defend companies and employees against attacks.
