{"id":1576,"date":"2025-03-13T18:10:18","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T18:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/?p=1576"},"modified":"2025-03-13T18:10:18","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T18:10:18","slug":"t-mobile-customers-to-get-payments-up-to-25k-next-month-after-data-breach-heres-who-qualifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tsfactory.com\/forums\/blog\/t-mobile-customers-to-get-payments-up-to-25k-next-month-after-data-breach-heres-who-qualifies\/","title":{"rendered":"T-Mobile customers to get payments up to $25K next month after data breach: Here\u2019s who qualifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(NEXSTAR) \u2013 The $350 million T-Mobile agreed to pay in a 2022 class action settlement will finally start going out to customers next month.<\/p>\n<p>The class action lawsuit came after a cyberattack in August 2021 compromised the personal data of 76 million T-Mobile customers in the U.S. The data that was breached included customers\u2019 names, addresses and Social Security numbers.<\/p>\n<p>T-Mobile denied any wrongdoing in the data breach, but agreed to the $350 million payout to settle the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\"><a class=\"promo-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/nexstar_media_wire\/5071599-payments-go-out-in-100m-verizon-settlement-but-people-are-disappointed\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\">Payments go out in $100M Verizon settlement, but people are disappointed\u00a0<\/a><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>After years of legal disputes and delays, the payments are set to be issued starting in April 2025,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.t-mobilesettlement.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the settlement administrator said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Those eligible to receive a payment were notified back in 2022, but it\u2019s understandable if you\u2019ve lost track since then. Generally speaking, all 76 million customers whose data was compromised in the cyberattack qualify.<\/p>\n<p>The size of the payment you receive will partially depend on how much time and money you lost as a result of the breach.<\/p>\n<p>If you \u201cspent money trying to avoid or recover from fraud or identity theft that you believe was fairly traceable to the T-Mobile Data Breach,\u201d you qualify for the biggest payout: reimbursement of up to $25,000. These customers were instructed to provide documentation of their losses, which could include the time it took to freeze their credit, money spent on credit monitoring services, or losses resulting from identity theft.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\"><a class=\"promo-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/nexstar_media_wire\/5188531-unclaimed-2021-tax-returns\/?ipid=promo-link-block2\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\">$1 billion in unclaimed tax refunds to expire soon: How to claim your money\u00a0<\/a><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>T-Mobile customers who didn\u2019t file that sort of documentation still get a piece of the settlement fund \u2013 just a much smaller one. If you didn\u2019t claim any out-of-pocket losses but were impacted by the massive breach, you could receive a cash payment of up to $25 (or $100 for people who lived in California in August 2021).<\/p>\n<p>Those payment estimates are the maximum \u2013 not the minimum \u2013 amount you should expect to receive when checks are issued next month. The $350 million fund has to cover lawyers\u2019 fees, administrative expenses and tens of millions of potentially valid claims.<\/p>\n<p>The fund will prioritize reimbursing out-of-pocket losses. The leftover amount will be distributed on a \u201cpro rata basis\u201d as cash payments.
