RGateway

A Simple Alternative to TSGateway

RGateway is a Terminal Server gateway intended to be a simpler and more comprehensive alternative to TSGateway introduced in Windows 2008. RGateway is backward compatible even with the oldest RDP clients, including:

  • embedded WinCE clients (found on many thin clients)
  • all rdesktop-based clients
  • pre-RDP6 mstsc.exe clients

Keep Your Older Thin Clients

Since many older thin clients will not receive firmware updates for TSGateway, this product is a perfect solution to allow you to avoid spending money to upgrade those older clients.

Benefits

  • Supports ALL RDP clients including WinCE
  • Postpone end-of-life on outdated thin clients
  • Freeware
  • Easy to deploy

How it works

RGateway exposes a single external network port that allows external connections to multiple Terminal Servers operating in an internal network. It listens on port 3399 for incoming RDP connections. After a connection is established, RGateway checks the "Start in the following folder" field value specified in the client. RGateway treats this field in a new way: it assumes that this value is a server name corresponding to a TS in the internal network. RGateway attempts to connect to the specified internal TS and, if successful, starts relaying all data between the client and the TS.
