RemoteApp Filter

What is RemoteApp Filter?

RemoteApp Filter is an extension to the TS Web Access feature provided by Microsoft in its new Windows 2008 Server. Be default, all remote applications are available to all users. RemoteApp Filter makes it possible to filter out remote applications that are not supposed to be shown to particular users or groups of users.

What is TS Web Access?

With Microsoft's TS Web Access, users can visit a Web site (either from the Internet or from an intranet) to access a list of available RemoteApp programs. When they start a RemoteApp program, a Terminal Services session is started on the Windows ServerĀ® 2008-based terminal server that hosts the RemoteApp program. TS Web Access is supplied by Microsoft with Windows ServerĀ® 2008.

How does RemoteApp Filter work?

The administrator maintains a special XML-based configuration file with a number of entries corresponding to published applications. Each entry specifies which users or groups should NOT be shown these particular applications. When a user opens the TS Web Access starting page in a browser, the list of applications are filtered according to the specified rules in the XML configuration file. All applications that have explicit denial entries for the users or groups they belong to are hidden from the user on the starting page.

How much does it cost?

Nothing, it is absolutely FREE!   Just tell your fellow TS admins about it.
